Blog EntryFree Meal Madness...Feb 4, '09 2:09 PM
for everyone
...I was struck with kindness.

Yesterday was like the ''big day'' for Denny's coz they were giving free meal which was the Grand Slam (eggs, pancakes, sausage links, bacon). So my cousin and I thought of grabbing this gastronomic opportunity since Grand Slam's are our usual meal there whenever starvation strikes us any time of the day though we mix it up a little bit. Plus it would be my first time to get into these kind of things here.

When we got there at around 9:30 AM.People were swarming outside.Waiting patiently and hungrily for their names to be called. Never minding the heat of the sun and the grumble of our abdomen. When we gave out our name to the receptionist, she said we had to wait for an hour and so. That was when the real waiting begun.

In the middle of our await,we thought of calling my aunt to tell her to eat with us but the problem was my cousin left her cell at home. And there! kaching! A public phone! Right on our spot.We instinctively digged for quarters. Truth be to told,I was kind of hesitating to use the phone coz it looked gross and beat-up. Also the handle was sticky so you know.So as I was about to insert the change,I heard a voice from my side saying, "You need a call?! Here's my phone. Use it". She handed it to me like it was originally mine. Finally,I got to make a call and then thanked the lady though I was still like confused with the whole incident.Call me crazy, but that's how I really felt. :)

My cousin and I were stunned by this act of kindness which in my opinion is rare nowadays especially now that a mobile phone is considered ''sacred''.Who would lend a phone just lke that?! What if it was a long distance call?! An international call perhaps?! What if I'd run away and make money out of it. Well, here I would easily get traced but from where I am from, cellphones are as good as cash so you know.

The whole morning was chaotic but I found it amusing coz I've witnessed how people still can be good to others despite of the ''crisis'' the world is going through. People would give seats to the elders and handicapped. Exchanging smiles. One of the good things I like here is that if you stand unknown in a pool of crowd, there's a great chance you'll end up having a chat with someone. The ''small talks'' that will keep you company.

Little wonders like these make me believe that the cliches  "Share Love", "World Peace", "Spread Joy" and the like can actually happen and still be true to its meaning.

[Give me wisdom, plain and truthful
Teach me somethin I don't know
Plain as education, inspiration I suppose
Give me family, on a Sunday
And I'll be just fine
There's nothing in the world
That's worth more of my time
